KNIFE CARE

WORK SHARPER NOT HARDER

When you bring us your knives it is our job to make them sharp! When you get them back, keeping them sharp has a lot to do with how you treat them when using, cleaning and storing them! We put together a list of Do's and Dont's that will help you knives stay enjoyable, longer!

                 -USE-

✅ Do:

  • Use the right knife for the job (e.g., chef’s knife for chopping, paring knife for peeling).

  • Cut on appropriate surfaces such as, wood or plastic cutting boards.

  • Use proper cutting techniques to maintain control and prevent damage.

❌ Don’t:

  • Use knives on hard surfaces like glass, stone, or metal.

  • Twist or pry with the knife—it’s not a screwdriver!

  • Cut through frozen foods or bones unless using a specialized knife.

  • Leave knives in the sink where they can be damaged or cause injury.

        -CLEANING-

✅ Do:

  • Wash knives by hand with warm, soapy water immediately after use.

  • Dry knives thoroughly before storing to prevent rust.

  • Use a soft sponge or cloth to clean the blade.

❌ Don’t:

  • Put knives in the dishwasher—heat and detergent can damage the blade and handle.

  • Leave knives soaking in water for extended periods.

  • Use abrasive scrubbers that can scratch the blade.

         -STORAGE-

✅ Do:

  • Store knives in a knife block, on a magnetic strip, or in a protective sheath.

  • Keep knives separate from other utensils to avoid dulling the blade.

  • Ensure knife storage is secure and safe from children’s reach.

❌ Don’t:

  • Store knives loosely in a drawer without protection.

  • Stack knives on top of each other, as this can dull the edges.

  • Leave knives exposed on countertops where they can be knocked off.

By following these guidelines, you can keep your knives sharp, safe, and long-lasting! 🔪
